A graphic widely shared on social media originated from an anonymous Republican website that says it tracks federal money to nongovernmental organizations and charities.
The graphic shows 30 organizations it said were connected to the Clinton Foundation. It said the foundation had $83,624,489 in gross receipts for tax year 2023, and received $17,500 in taxpayer money. It did not say Chelsea Clinton individually received that amount or that the U.S. Agency for International Development paid that amount to the foundation.
The website on which the graphic originated specifically said Chelsea Clinton received no payment for serving as the organization’s vice chair.
Social media posts are sharing a graphic from a Republican data website to claim it’s proof that Chelsea Clinton is raking in taxpayer dollars.
A Feb. 5 Facebook post’s caption said, "Chelsea Clinton, return those $84 million tax payers dollars. Now you see why democrats don’t want (Elon Musk) to pull that sheet off? Corruption everywhere!"
The post shared a graphic with a gray box on its far right labeled, "Bill Hillary & Chelsea Clinton" and in the same box, "gross receipts" of $83,624,489.
We found multiple social media posts making the same claim about Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Many of the posts tied the money to the U.S. Agency for International Development, called USAID, which has been the subject of many misleading claims. A Feb. 5 Threads post said, "Chelsea Clinton RECEIVED $84 million from USAID. Chelsea Clinton stole from taxpayers while living in the lap of luxury."
Some of these posts were flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads.)
Billionaire business owner Elon Musk, who heads the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency, an advisory board, is leading an effort to shutter USAID, the federal government’s international humanitarian and development arm.
Musk amplified the claim to his 216 million X followers in a post that was later deleted, writing "wow" as he shared another account’s post that included the graphic and said, "Chelsea Clinton casually taking home $84 million."

Using reverse-image search, we traced the graphic to the website Data Republican, which said on its homepage, "We're connecting the dots between government grants, charities, and drawing connections to expose where the money flows."
It’s unclear from the website or its X profile who owns the site. The site was registered anonymously on Jan. 30, GoDaddy’s WHOIS database shows.
The Data Republican site lets users search for charity and grant funding. We searched for Chelsea Clinton under the "officer search" option and the results showed a list of charities she works with, including one listed as "Bill Hillary & Chelsea Clinton."
The site listed the federal employee identification number as 31-1580204, which belongs to the Clinton Foundation, a philanthropic organization the Clintons founded in 2001. The Data Republicans site said the information is for tax year 2023, and listed Chelsea Clinton as the organization’s vice chair with $0 compensation.
One link said, "Trace connections to USAID NGOs," and when selected, that link displays the graphic included in the social media posts. The graphic shows multiple organizations with funding connected to the Clinton Foundation. It shows gross receipts of $83,624,489 for the foundation and says the foundation received $17,500 in taxpayer funds.
The graphic does not say USAID paid any money to the Clinton Foundation; in an X post, DataRepublican said funding is "fungible" and that USAID money moves through "multiple layers," not directly.
A Clinton Foundation tax filing published on ProPublica’s Nonprofit Explorer shows the organization had $30,509,666 in revenue in 2023. That filing also shows Chelsea Clinton receiving $0 in compensation for her vice chair role.
We emailed press offices for the Clinton Foundation and for Chelsea Clinton but received no response.
We rate claims that a graphic shows that USAID paid Chelsea Clinton $84 million False.
