No, Marjorie Taylor Greene didn’t say New York, California are ‘flipping red’

If Your Time is short

  • U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., didn’t say this. It appeared on a parody X account.

"Delusional." "Loon." "BS."

Such were the comments in response to a Threads post that appeared to share an election prediction from U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.

"New York and California are absolutely flipping red. Mark my words," read what appeared to be an Oct. 27 X post from a verified account under the name "Marjorie Taylor Greene Press…"

"Sure," the Oct. 27 Threads post sharing the image said, along with several laughing-while-crying emojis.

The Threads post was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads.)

But this X post is from a parody account — not one of Greene’s.

Although it is cut off in the image shared on Threads, the parody account is called "Marjorie Taylor Greene Press Release Parody." And the user handle, though similar to Greene’s @RepMTG X account, is @MTGrepp.

The statement doesn’t appear in Greene’s @RepMTG or @mtgreenee X accounts. We looked for other evidence, such as credible news reporting or public statements from Greene, that she said this elsewhere and found none.

Greene has talked about "flipping" in connection with the 2024 election — an unfounded claim about voter fraud because voting machines were purportedly "flipping votes" in Georgia. That wasn’t true.

But neither is this claim that Greene posted about two longtime blue states becoming red.

We rate claims this is an authentic Greene X post False.
