No, Majorie Taylor Greene didn’t erase Matt Gaetz from her Twitter feeds
If Your Time is short
- Majorie Taylor Greene did not delete old tweets about Matt Gaetz, and she continues to show her support for him on Twitter.
While U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., is drawing little support from his party amid a federal sex trafficking investigation, one Republican colleague, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, has stood by him.
But a social media post with an image of the two lawmakers that’s being shared online suggests Greene’s support is wavering.
"Marjorie Taylor Greene just scrubbed her Twitter feed of ALL things Gaetz," the post says. "No more GaetzLove in Greeneville. It’s a shame THIS pic was salvaged. If I didn’t know any better I’d say she was trying to distance herself from someone she knows is guilty."
This post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook.)
A quick search of Greene’s verified Twitter accounts shows this isn’t true.
As recently as April 13, Green tweeted that she has "proudly defended @mattgaetz from the beginning because I know that he’s done nothing wrong."
The photo of Greene and Gaetz that appears in the Facebook post is also still there; she shared it on Feb. 7, 2020.
And on April 5, the day this post was published on Facebook, Greene tweeted: "Show me 1 woman who has spoken out against @mattgaetz! … This is nothing but a deep state attack and media smear fest to take him down."
We rate this post False.
