- The image of Adolf Hitler was doctored so that it looks like he’s holding a book in a similar pose to Donald Trump.
- In the original photo, Hitler is waving to supporters as they give him the Nazi salute.
On June 1, police officers fired tear gas canisters to disperse protesters in Washington, D.C. Less than 30 minutes later, President Donald Trump walked to visit St. John’s Church, near where the protesters had been. He was holding a Bible as his photo was taken in front of the church, which was damaged by a fire the previous night.
His pose is similar to one Nazi leader Adolf Hitler can be seen striking in an old photo. In an image that has been shared widely on Facebook, Hitler is holding a book in the same hand as Trump as people salute him.
"The similarities are frightening," a June 2 Facebook post says.

In the original image, which you can view on Getty Images’ website, Hitler has his hand in the air but he’s not holding anything. The caption describes him as waving to thousands of supporters as they give him the Nazi salute.
