No, this image doesn’t show Elon Musk, Taylor Swift at a production facility

If Your Time is short

  • This image isn’t authentic.

Are singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and entrepreneur Elon Musk friends or enemies? Citizens of the world of misinformation can’t make up their minds.

Sometimes Musk is purportedly comparing Swift to sewer water, or banning her from his social media platform, X. Other times, he’s promoting an energy-saving device with Swift

None of those claims are true, and neither is a new one: that an image shows the pair crouching together outside of the aforementioned energy-saving device’s production facilities.

"After the Department of Justice cleared all charges, Tesla CEO (Elon Musk) and Taylor Swift visited Miracle Watt’s production facilities," a Jan. 2 post said. "They explored how the product not only reduces energy costs for seniors but also leads the way toward a more sustainable future, effectively overcoming resistance from power companies."

This post and others were flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads.)

Representatives for Swift and Tesla didn’t respond to PolitiFact’s questions about the post.

But in December, we fact-checked a similar claim that other images showed Swift and Musk promoting a household energy consumption reduction device together.

Then as now, reverse-image searches using Google Images, TinEye, Bing and Yandez yielded no credible sources for the images in the posts.

Swift’s right hand in the image of Musk and her crouching in the Jan. 2 post also appears malformed, a sign that it was likely generated with artificial intelligence.

PolitiFact has previously fact-checked false claims that Musk invented a small gadget to slash energy bills. We found no evidence Musk had created such a device.

We also found no evidence that Musk and Swift are promoting such a device together.

We rate claims this post includes an authentic image of Musk and Swift Pants on Fire!
