Tesla tablets for $100? Think again. There’s no evidence auto company ‘unveiled’ a tablet

Despite numerous social media posts alleging without evidence that a "$100 Tesla tablet" was imminent, we found no announcements or credible news reports corroborating the claim that Tesla CEO Elon Musk or the automaker announced such a device.
As billionaire Elon Musk continues his foray into politics as an adviser to President-elect Donald Trump, claims about Musk’s companies and products are swirling on social media.
Some posts say automaker Tesla, which Musk leads as CEO, has announced plans to delve into personal electronics at prices lower than companies such as Apple and Google.
"AMAZING: Elon Musk unveils a $100 Tesla tablet that will revolutionize the technological world," said one Dec. 10 post that included an image of Musk holding a red electronic tablet emblazoned with a Tesla logo. An attached illustrated tag listed it at $100.
A nearly identical Dec. 12 post promised that Tesla’s purported $100 tablet would revolutionize "the world of technology."

Despite numerous social media posts saying without evidence that a "$100 Tesla tablet" is imminent, we found no announcements or credible news reports corroborating the claim.
Tesla’s website does not feature a tablet computer, nor has the company announced a $100 tablet in a press release. A search for "Tesla tablet" took us to a page on Tesla’s website for the touch screens used in its Model S vehicle, which the technology news site The Verge once described as "the epitome of a tablet on wheels."

On his social media platform X, Musk often posts about Tesla products, such as the Model S or Tesla’s Megapack batteries. But an advanced search of Musk’s X posts turned up no mention of the word "tablet."
Searches of Tesla’s X account also revealed no posts about a Tesla tablet.
The tablet claims are the latest in a series of social media posts declaring that Musk has launched various fake products, at least one of which Musk has rebutted directly.
Online rumors prompted podcast host Joe Rogan to ask Musk whether Tesla had considered creating a smartphone. Musk said company leaders had not seriously discussed the idea of making a phone because Tesla has other goals.
"We’re still — right, our focus is making great electric cars," Musk said in November on "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast. "Solving autonomy so the cars can drive themselves. We’re building, you know, humanoid robots. We’ve got large battery packs and like utility-scale battery packs with the Megapack. Home battery packs with Powerwall, get solar. You know, it’s like — we’re basically trying to solve sustainable energy and autonomy. Autonomy and robotics."
When Rogan commented on the number of projects, Musk joked: "Exactly, so the plate’s full."
We contacted Tesla but did not hear back before publication.
